Dr. Angela Baldasare joins the adult-learning and online innovator to help drive institutional research and student-success analytics work aimed at helping more students learn well and finish strong
SAN DIEGO, CA (October 24, 2022) — National University, one of the largest nonprofit universities in the United States that serves more than 40,000 students, today announced the appointment of Dr. Angela Baldasare as deputy chief of staff and vice president for strategic institutional research and planning. In this role, Dr. Baldasare will serve as the institution’s subject matter expert in higher education analytics, working with leaders across the university to harness the power of research and analytics to power a wide range of strategic initiatives across the organization.
“Over the past decade, Angela has proven herself as one of the most effective and strategic institutional data leaders in higher education,” said Dr. Mark D. Milliron, president and CEO of National University. “Her perspective is grounded in deep empathy for the students and communities we serve. She also brings deep expertise in translating insights into strategies and impact that improve the lives of students, making her an ideal addition to our team.”
A nationally-recognized leader in institutional research, analytics and business intelligence, Dr. Baldasare brings more than two decades of experience of building and leading teams that are using analytics to improve outcomes in education and promote social good.
During more than eight years with the University of Arizona (UA), Dr. Baldasare served as the assistant provost for institutional research, following four years as the founding director of divisional assessment for student affairs and enrollment management. During her time at UA, the university’s pioneering efforts to use data science and analytics to drive student success helped drive retention rates to an all-time high, resulting in national recognition through an American Public Radio’s Marketplace segment.
More recently, Dr. Baldasare served as senior principal strategic consultant at Civitas Learning, the education technology firm well-known that pioneered the application of predictive analytics and data science to improve student retention, progression and completion. There, Angela was a leader with the firm’s services team, helping leaders to implement data-enabled advising technologies and apply analytics to improve outcomes and educational experiences for students.
“National University has developed a well-earned reputation as an institution committed to meeting the needs of the whole student—from classroom and career to finances and family life,” Baldasare said. “I’m thrilled to join a team of educators and student success experts who are helping to set a new standard for learning-centered innovation.”
Prior to launching a career in higher education administration, Baldasare spent a decade in nonprofit and public sector leadership working to advance social impact in areas such as higher education, disease prevention, public safety, and child welfare.
